USC Application Overview

Applying to transfer as a student at USC is straightforward, requiring all applicants to submit the Common Application. Applicants also must submit official transcripts from both high school and any previously attended colleges.

As part of their application, all transferring applicants must state their primary major preference. USC requires transfer candidates to answer a selection of queries in concise replies, potentially accompanied by additional materials that are contingent on the applicant’s desired major.

For transfer applicants to be considered for admission by USC, they must show progress towards meeting the school’s general education requirements. Additionaly, they must be able to perform well in any lower-division courses that are necessary for their desired major. If you are a transfer student looking to gain admittance into one of the most selective programs, such as engineering or dental hygiene, this is especially pertinent for you.

All potential sophomore and junior-level transfers are welcome to apply for admission at USC, with no minimum transfer units required. With one notable exception, this policy stands. The USC School of Cinematic Arts demands that transfer students complete 48 credit hours prior to entering the Film and Television Production program.

Nevertheless, admissions decisions for students who have acquired fewer than 30 transferable credits by the end of the spring term will be principally based on their high school transcripts and standardized test scores if they were submitted.

While letters of recommendation are voluntary for the majority of prospective students, some majors may have them as a requirement. USC has a looming transfer deadline of February 15th for most academic programs. Yet, those with an audition or portfolio requirement have the option to submit applications by December 1st.
